Carneros Studios shares the headquarters complex of a prominent 120 acre vineyard halfway between the towns of Napa and Sonoma. Carneros is the renowned grape growing region of southern Napa and Sonoma counties, an hours drive north of San Francisco. The name refers to the early settlers of the region, many of whom where Portuguese shepherds. The beauty and tranquility of this area nurture the creative processes that engender great wine and great furniture.
In 30 years of custom furniture design, I have had the privilege to work in many styles and periods. Though a majority of commissions have been residential, notable commercial commissions have included a centerpiece table in the rotunda of the old main library at Stanford University; altar furniture for the 200 year old adobe Mission San Xavier del Bac in Tucson, Arizona; and tables for the San Francisco Civic Center Courthouse. My work has been exhibited in Art Museums in Tucson, Phoenix, Colorado Springs, and Sonoma. I count post Civil War Texas furniture, Jean-Michel Frank, Wharton Excherick, and Hank Williams among the strongest influences of my work.
My personal style draws on a wide ranging familiarity with furniture history. The modern pieces in my portfolio share an elegant elemental line and restrained adornment; my distillation of a lifetime of working with furniture.
